Henley Royal Regatta FAQs

What are the best Henley-on-Thames restaurants?

Henley-on-Thames boasts two restaurants featured in the Michelin Guide – which is incredible for a town of its size, and wonderful news for those wishing to attend Henley Regatta 2019.  Both restaurants have been awarded the well-renowned Michelin Plate – a single step down from the Michelin Star.  These high-performers are Shaun Dickens at The Boathouse, Henley and the Three Tuns, Henley-on-Thames.
Both kitchens are known for fantastic food – loved by locals and tourists alike.  Book early to avoid missing out, especially during Henley Royal Regatta Week, when thousands of extra guests will be in town.
Shaun Dickens at the Boat House has a delightful menu filled with local ingredients and served beautifully with attention to fine detail.
The Three Tuns menu is more simplistic and offers hearty classics such as homemade burgers and cod & chips – but don’t be fooled into thinking it’s a greasy spoon.  These home-made dishes are locally sourced and so expertly made Michelin love it!
In Regatta Week, Henley hospitality packages tend to include full, multiple-course luncheons, and will usually have afternoon teas, pastries and canapés on offer.  You’ll be spoilt for choice!

What are the best Henley-on-Thames pubs?

If you’re in need of something cold and refreshing after a long day at the Henley Riverfront, you’re in luck!
Henley-on-Thames boasts many lovely and lively public houses.  In them you’ll find excellent staff serving great food and drinks to rooms full of locals and tourists alike.  During Henley Regatta week, Henley-on-Thames comes alive, filling each of these great pubs and inns with life.
The Anchor, on Friday Street, is one of our favourites.  An old black-and-white timber building which houses a stylish and modern pub inside.
Another Henley pub we love is The Station House – a pub a little bit hidden from the main Henley-on-Thames roadways, but is worth seeking out.  Located in the town’s old police station, this is one of the most pleasurable gastro-pubs in the wider area.
On Bell Street, there are two standout pubs – The Bull and The Olde Bell.  The Olde Bell is a 14th Century pub and inn with rooms.  Just down the road, The Bull offers a great selection of beers as well as modern food.
If you’re specifically after a bar in Henley, there is only one place to head to – Magoos.  Open til 2am on the weekend it’s the place for a Regatta after-party.  With DJ and dancefloor, it’s dark, noisy and simply a good night out.

What is the Henley Regatta dress code?

Henley Regatta is as well known for it’s sophisticated atmosphere as it is the racing!  So much so that the dress codes are often spoken of with reverence – and sometimes almost fear!
But don’t worry, the dress codes are much simpler than you’ll be lead to believe by many.  Each hospitality enclosure will have a different dress code, so always be sure you ask when you buy!
At the one end of the spectrum, some Henley Regatta hospitality suites have no formal dress code – just a guideline of smart casual, and let’s you decide what that means!
At the other end of the spectrum, strict dress codes must be adhered to or you run the risk of being denied entry.

How do I get to Henley-on-Thames?

Where is Henley Regatta?
Henley Regatta is held every year on the banks of the River Thames, just outside of Henley-on-Thames.  The straight stretch of the river just over a mile in length which the boats race down is known as the Henley Reach.  Dotted along the riverbanks are many guests and attendees in both general admission grandstands and VIP hospitality suites and enclosures.

The river borders the town, with boats racing in the direction of Henley-on-Thames town centre.

Henley-on-Thames is home to the world famous Henley Royal Regatta.  The town’s backdrop is wonderful Oxfordshire countryside, right near to the borders with Berkshire and Buckinghamshire.
